A Brief History The school started on the 7th January 1953 in a log cabin on the site of the present Mondeor Tennis Club. The Mondeor valley was sparsely populated and only 27 children were enrolled. The school was opened by Miss Welman who stayed principal of the school during the time of the building of the present school during 1954 and 1955. Mondeor Primary as we know it today was officially opened as a parallel medium school on 29th October 1955. However, this changed in 1966 when Mondeor Primary became an English medium school. It was the 2nd school in Johannesburg to open to all races in 1991 and has never looked back. The children at Mondeor Primary are blessed with the richness of a multi-cultural, multi-lingual and multi-faith environment and the school, its teachers and children enjoy an outstanding reputation in Gauteng and beyond. The school has grown from a small peri-urban school into a dynamic institution with a proud history and bright future with over 1000 learners and a teaching, administrative and support staff of 61. Mondeor Primary School looks to the future with confidence and continues to grow in stature from its humble beginnings in a log cabin in a valley more than 60 years ago.
